Obituary for James McCuen

James McCuen
James H. McCuen

Jimbo, Mac, MaCster, Mr. Mac, Coach Mac passed away June 27th 2015.

Mac was born November 15, 1940 to parents Howard and Phyllis McCuen, who preceded him in death. Jim graduated from Tacoma’s Lincoln High School in 1959 where he sang in the Choir and played football and was recognized as an accomplished running back known as “Mr. Inside”. After high school graduation, Mac played football for the Tacoma Tyees, the local semi-pro football team.
Jimbo began his work career with the then South End Boys Club as the Assistant Manager under Don Danielson. At the SEBC, Mac began coaching football and coached Bobby Moore who, as Ahmad Rashad, achieved a stellar professional career in the NFL.
Lincoln High School was his life. He was a true “ABE”! When it was remarked that his blood was black and gold, he would say “Vegas Gold”. At Lincoln, Coach Mac coached Freshman football, Girl’s fast pitch and advised the Ski & Snow Board Club. Jim was also the Field Announcer for football games played in Lincoln’s Bowl. Mac retired from Lincoln High School after working Campus Security. Jim also refereed basketball and was a member of WWBOA for 30 years. He was also a member of the Tacoma Athletic Club and the South Tacoma Eagles Club.
Mac will be dearly missed by his wife, Tammy; his sisters Diane and Debbie, as well as nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his many dear friends and his cat “Junion B.H.”.

We are all going to miss you Mac. Adios!

A Celebration of Jim's life will take place at the Lincoln High School auditorium at 2:00pm on Saturday August 22. This will be followed by a Potluck/BYOB at the Henry T. Schatz Branch of the Boys & Girls Club of South Puget Sound 3875 S. 66th St. Tacoma at 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Jim McCuen Memorial Scholarship Fund at Lincoln High School.
