As I read the obituary for Mrs. Schafer this morning. I reflected on a time many years ago when I saw the Schafer family often, during visits to their home or outings they invited me to attend. I met Bill through his Baker Jr. High friends, Dick Sande and Candy Wilkins. He was also friends with Julie Anderson who attended Fern Hill Methodist. I was 14, which was 45 years ago. I remember the warmth, sincerity and kindness she extended to me on each meeting. She was such a gentle soul possessing enormous depth of spirit. She even offered her services when my sister needed help with her newborn son. I was also impressed even at a young age by Sherri and Bill's obvious admiration of her. Few teens openly demonstrate their love and respect for parents at that time of their lives. I recall inclusion in family outings to Dick's DeMolay installation, restaurants,a ball game, and the Parkland Round-up when Sherri was a princess. She always made me feel comfortable and welcome. Mr. Schafer was quite an interesting personality and she rolled along graciously at every turn. I have fond memories of my time with the Schafers and I wanted to let the family know that their mother's loving ways also touched friends from the distant past. Best regards and sympathy to Bill, Sherri and their families. Judy (Nemec) Skog
