1935 – 2016

Sammy R. Cox (Sam) 80, of Puyallup WA passed away peacefully at Heartwood Extended Health Care (Tacoma) on May 13, 2016 after a long illness.

Sam was born on Oct. 9, 1935 in El Monte CA to Ward and Mamie Cox. He attended high school in Toledo WA and Pomona CA. He served in the US Army from 1954-57 and was stationed in Goppingen Germany. Upon his return from the service, he settled in the Pomona area. He eventually moved back to Washington State in 1966. In the next several years, he discovered his talent for Landscaping. In 1976 he moved to Kennewick WA to pursue landscaping full time. He founded Samco Landscaping and soon afterward, a nursery. In 1985 he moved Samco to the Puyallup area. His numerous landscaping projects were renowned in both areas of the state. In his later years, he founded Samscapes Landscaping.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and watching professional boxing. He is survived by his wife Susan (Ramos) at home; sons Sam L. Cox (partner Jean) Denver CO; Tim R. Cox (wife Lori) Tacoma WA; daughter Johnni White (husband Gerald) Spanaway WA; sister Nadine Pendley Tempe AZ; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Allene Boone.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on Saturday June 4, 2016 1:00pm at the Titlow Lodge 8425 6th Ave, Tacoma WA 98406. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
