Our Beloved Patricia Anne Gossett Darrah, R.N.

Born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Memphis TN on Dec. 1, 1935, she departed for her heavenly home at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma, WA on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015.
Patricia graduated from Whitehaven High School in Memphis TN and was head of her class in Nurse Training at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. Early in her career she was the surgical nurse assistant to Memphis’ top neuro-surgeon, Dr. Bland Cannon. Following that she was the Charge Nurse for St. Jude’s Hospital intensive care unit.
In 1958 she married Marine Corps. Sergeant Peter Frink Darrah and had 4 children. They moved to Gig Harbor where Patricia enjoyed scuba diving and leading the Camp Fire Girls. She made many good friends there including her life long friend Pam Halsan. She continued her nursing career working at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma during the 1960’s.
Patricia’s second marriage was to physician Dr. Douglas Medlin. They lived in Wisconsin where she helped him in his private practice. In her later years, Patricia was lovingly and selflessly devoted to her grandchildren.
Patricia lived the last 2 years of her life with crippling medical infirmities and received top-notch medical treatment and nursing care from the Park Rose Care Center on 19th St. in Tacoma WA where she enjoyed playing Bingo.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Lucile Bolivar and Robert Earl Gossett and her infant son, Peter Pelham Darrah.
She is survived by her 3 children, Abigail, Jonathan and Patience; her 5 grandchildren Clarity, Taylor, Cade, Blake and Zane; and her 2 great-grandchildren Cecilia and Maya and her sister Betty Jean Gossett of Puyallup.
