My family lived across the street from the Beaty's in the '60s. My sister Debbie was ten and I was eight. We were chasing each other through the house and I ran into the closed sliding glass door and broke it. We had a baby sitter but Debbie ran across the street to get Jim's help. Jim came and carried me to his car and then drove me to the hospital. As an eight year old girl, he saved my life. I ended up with 51 stitches up and down my legs. I remember worrying about his bare feet as he carried me over his gravel driveway to his car. Debbie remembers that Jim put me in his brand new car and she was concerned about the seats getting stained. Years later he gave me a truck load of pool tiles so I could do mosaics to my hearts content. For years I worked with those tiles making stepping stones, covering tables, lazy susans and trays. I even made a lamp shade with those tiles. He was a very loving and kind man. I am glad that our lives touched. Sandie (Sirles) Holt
