Andrene Ward Melquist (Nee Farley), known to her friends and family as Andi, died 6th of May 2015 at her home in Tacoma, surrounded by her children and devoted husband, Randy. She was born 6 June 1943 in Derbyshire, England and grew up in a small village with her mother and grandparents. She moved to London where she met Randy and they moved to Tacoma in 1972 with their children. She was preceded in death by a son, Simon, and is survived by 5 children: Jane and Alec (Dawn) who live in Scotland, Johanna (Del) and Rachel who live in Tacoma, Ezekiel/Derek (Daniel) who live in Brooklyn and her grandson Richard, whom they raised. She also had many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to working, she served as president of Tacoma Jaycees auxiliary, volunteered at public schools, and was a member of the local PEO and Calligraphy Guild. She loved children and spending time in her garden. Although she was praised as a cook, she believed in the motto of “Eat Dessert First.” Her feistiness and quick smile will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved her. There will be an informal celebration of her life held in her garden. Donations in her memory may be sent to the Salvation Army or Multicare Hospice.
