Obituary for William "Roger" Shelby

William Rogers Shelby
Born July 19, 1964 ~ Deceased July 8, 2021

William Rogers Shelby is preceded in death by his parents Francis and Frank Shelby and Survived by wife Shevon, his brothers and sisters: James, Linda, Roosevelt, Edward, John, Curtis, Deborah, Angela, Bonnie, LaMarcus, as well as nieces and nephews.

Roger grew up with his brothers and sisters in Indianola, Mississippi, playing together and were very tight knit. James, Roger, and Curtis would be a team playing versus Roosevelt, Edward and John -- football, basket ball and baseball. Joking and teasing was part of growing up in the Shelby home, and Roger, with his brothers, learned not to take things too seriously.

A most important milestone took place when Roger was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on August 13, 1983.

Roger was married on August 16, 1985, to the love of his life, Shevon.

Roger was a hardworker doing many varied jobs. He was a freight manager, HVAC technician, flooring installer, and performed building maintenance.

He loved to cook and was good at it! Many were invited over to the Shelby home for gumbo and pozole. He enjoyed preparing hot wings and hot links. Roger and Shevon are hospitable, often inviting people over for food and drinks.

Together, Roger and Shevon enjoyed many wonderful experiences, including attending International Conventions of Jehovah's Witnesses, traveling to France and Japan. They were also privileged to support Bible Dramas during conventions. Roger was a speaker at circuit assemblies and regional conventions.

Roger, Shevon, and many of their family members believe in the Bible's promise of a resurrection. It will only be a little while until we get to enjoy Roger's cooking, jokes, friendship, and love once again
