Obituary for Mary Elaine Waiss

Heaven Gained a Beautiful Angel
Mary Elaine Waiss
March 7, 1943 ~ February 2, 2023

At the age of 79, surrounded by her loving family in her home, Mary Elaine Waiss peacefully completed her journey on February 2, 2023.

Born in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Frank and Margaret (Canham) Waiss. Mary, also known as “Ginger,” had a fiery, humorous, down-to-earth, personality. She loved serving the Lord, spending time with her family and close friends. Her relationship with the Lord guided her to think in terms of eternity and often express that she wanted her entire family to be saved, so she could see them once again in Heaven.

Mary, a graduate of Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Washington was enthusiastically involved in school activities which included her serving as class Vice President of Takolah and was recognized as Homecoming Princess Mary in the school district beauty pageant. She openly shared her lessons learned from her experiences. Her testimonies touched the hearts of others because she had overcome so many trials and tribulations throughout her life. She would often say that God brought her through it all, and that she was so very grateful for each and every one of her blessings.

Her passion for God, coincided with her genuine love for her family. Her loving spirit and kind heart was unparalleled.

She possessed a deep adoration for her favorite color purple, Native American mementos, turquoise jewelry, and river dancing were all a part of her pleasures in life. In honor of Mary, we request that whenever you encounter a beautiful daffodil, a lily, or yellow rose you smile in honor of her memory. These were just a few simple things in life she admired.

A strong woman, a beautiful woman, a caring woman, a woman of wisdom, a woman of humor, a loveable woman is a composite description of the woman we cherished and will forever be remembered.

She is preceded in death by her parents Frank & Margaret Waiss, her loving stepfather, Gene Duncan, her sisters Elizabeth, Frances, and her brother Lorry. She is survived by her children, daughter Starlene Waiss of Tacoma, WA, son Anthony Crain (Aprile) of North Dinwiddie, VA; her grandchildren: Nathan, Elizabeth, Caleb, Rachel, Anthony II, Alyxandor (Laura); her great grandchildren Skyla, Silas, Uriah; her siblings Stacy, Jerry, Terry, Margaret; and a host of nephews, nieces, family, and friends.

She left a legacy of sharing her faith, her love for the Lord, caring for others and always said “God is Good!” She will always have a place in our hearts, and she left memorable moments for us to cherish and share with others.

A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 1:00pm at Zion’s River Church, 4602 S. 56th St, Tacoma WA 98409.
