Obituary for Lemuel Hale

Lemuel Hale died Nov. 20, 2021 at home in Tacoma, with his wife Evelyn by his side.

He was born @home in Knott Co. Kentucky to Elam Hale and Carrie Hall Hale, March 27, 1934. He grew up in Wolfpen Holler near Hindman Kentucky. He started playing mandolin around age 10. Soon he was playing in a Bluegrass band with his Uncles, Willie and Junior Hall. Even playing on WKIC in Hazard, KY.

At 17 Lem left for Washington with his older brother Corbett to find work in the lumber industry. He worked at the Eatonville Sawmill. After working at different jobs and places he finally became a Barber after recovering from TB. He spent 30 plus years barbering at 35th and McKinley in Tacoma, and he worked weekends playing music for many years. Lem was an avid steelhead fisherman and also loved watching Univ of KY Mens Basketball.

Lem is survived by his wife of 44 years, Evelyn Gove Hale. And his children Beth Elaine Hanrahan, Bruce Hale, and Kathy Gurnee. Also his sisters, Janice Vance, Dorothy Keefer, and Alta Tidwell. Preceded in death by his brothers, Ernie and Brenton, and his son Larry and grandson Justin. Also he had 8 half brothers and sisters that have all passed. Lem had many nieces and nephews, grand children and great-grandchildren. He will be missed by many friends and family. He was a handsome man with a sense of humor.

A Graveside service will be held Friday, Dec. 3rd, 11am, at Eatonville Cemetery, 530 Fir Ave. N. Friends and family are welcome to drop in at Lem and Evie's home after 1pm in Tacoma.
