Obituary for John McDonald

John J. “Jack” McDonald, age 94, passed away at home, surrounded by his family on December 30th, 2021.

He was born in Portage Wisconsin on October 22nd, 1927. He entered the U.S. Navy at age 17, during WWII. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a radiological technology degree.

It was 40 below zero in Wisconsin the day in 1950 when he boarded a train to Tacoma, WA for a job at St. Joseph Hospital as the head (and only) X-Ray Technician. He retired from St. Joseph after 50 years of service, and then began a 20-year second career as a guest experience host/ticket scanner for the Seattle Mariners. He was life time member of the Elks lodge #0174.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty (Medved) McDonald; sons Steve (Patti), Mark (Jennifer), Greg (Amy), Jim (Lisa-Marie), Dave, Tom (Kathleen), John (Angie) and only daughter Kathleen (Rick) Russell, 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Jack was a one-of-a-kind, a great story teller, a proud father/grandfather, whose smile lit up the room, and made the world a better place.
