Obituary for Joan Marie Witte

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Joan Marie Witte on July 2nd, 2023, in Gig Harbor Washington. She was born on May 22nd, 1941 to Eugene and Jane Glaser in Riverside, California. She is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years John "Jack" Witte who passed in 2009. In 1963, she graduated with her degree in education from Michigan State University, married Jack and drove across the country to the Seattle area. Joan spent a year teaching 3rd grade until Michael was born the following year. She is survived by her son, Michael (Kristina) Witte, daughter Julie (Bill) Brewster, and son Paul (Kathy Pope) Witte. She was blessed with 6 grandchildren Justin Witte, Christopher (Jacklin) Witte, Jessica Brewster, Jonathan Brewster, Gavin Witte, and Bridgette Witte.

Joan was the eldest of 6 siblings, Carol (Gary) Cook, Barbara (John) Lang, Eugene Jr. (passed)(Carol) Glaser, Mary Glaser, and Kathy (Denny) Schmidt. She grew up in Vernon, Michigan and spent summers at their cabin at Aginaw Lake, hidden among farmland near Bancroft Michigan where wonderful family reunions were held over the years.

Joan was a loving and supportive wife, mother and friend who enjoyed cooking, sewing, camping and gardening. Jack and Joan had traveled to the SW US and made special trips to Greece, Egypt, and the Holy Lands. Joan was part of a couples golf league and was a real straight shooter! Joan enjoyed walking with her friends group, feeding and observing the hummingbirds and tending to her strawberries so she could make her incredible freezer jam. Joan was dedicated to her faith in God and the Catholic Church. She had a beautiful “billion-dollar” smile.

Funeral services will be held at St Johns the Baptist Catholic Church in Covington WA on July 14th at 11:00 AM.
