Obituary for Joan Patricia Ames Owen
Joan Patricia (Decker) Ames-Owen, of Lakewood Washington, unexpectantly passed away at the age of 80 on Monday, November 08, 2021. She was born October 18,1941 in Staten Island, NY. As a child Joan moved with her family to Kingwood Twp., NJ where she continued to live through High School. Although not able to complete high school at that time due to family commitments, later in life while raising her family, she was very proud to receive a graduation diploma through the GED program, which she used as a valuable asset to further to her career choices.
Joan was a very fun loving, strong-willed independent woman. Early on as a single mother she moved with her children from NJ to Charleston South Carolina while working as a cocktail waitress. In 1967 she ended up as a permanent resident of Washington State. At a time when “parties” were the only way to get Tupperware products these traits helped her move from a Tupperware party host to a consultant/organizer to eventually the status of a Regional Manager in the Pacific Northwest. She also worked for many years as a bookkeeper for Gale Industries in Tacoma Washington.
In her later years she enjoyed quilting and became a “snowbird” and lived in Surprise Arizona in the winter with her husband Max ‘Bud’ Owen. While at home in Washington Joan and Bud would attend square dances and enjoy the company of friends. Her daily ‘Good Morning’ text message is already greatly missed by her family.
Joan is survived by her 4 sons; Joseph W. Herrman, Martin C. (Kathy) Herrman and their 3 sons Robert (Kayla) and their daughter Cassidy, Timothy (Taryn), Daniel (Erin), Douglas E. (Joann) Ames and their son Derek, Dale Ames and his daughter Gabrielle,; 1 daughter Patricia A. Akers and her son Justin and daughter Evyn and 1 sister Barbara Blodgett.
A remembrance will be held in NJ (where many family members still reside) at a later TBD date so that family and friends may gather.
