Obituary for Helen E Oliver

Our beloved Mom, Helen E. Oliver, passed away on January 19, 2019 at her home near Eatonville, WA. Helen had an appealing flair for design that touched every aspect of her life, loved to garden and walked up to 4 miles a day prior to COPD changing her life. She was born to Maude H. and Robert C. Etheridge on February 15, 1930 in Norfolk, VA., and graduated from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA in Medical Technology. She met and married the love for her lifetime, Jack Oliver, and they started their family in the Norfolk area. Helen and Jack later relocated their family to Tacoma, WA. , where she spent her early married life in the role of “mom”. Once her three children were in their teens, she returned to the medical field in which she’d received her degree, working as a Med Tech at Porro Labs in Tacoma.
In retirement, Helen and Jack thrived on their 5 acre property near Eatonville, creating an oasis of peace with nature that always kept them happily busy. Together, they enjoyed membership in Pierce County Master Gardeners.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Anne (Polly) McDearmid and Shirley Milner and husband of 48 years, Jack. She is survived by her three children, Jay, Susan (Petrossian), and Casey, three grandchildren, Roffi, Armen and Nicole and two great-grandchildren
Helen’s family was her JOY and she shared with us, always a listening ear, support and a dry wit about life itself. Her children would like to thank all her friends who were so special to Helen, sharing time, conversation and their lives with this creative devoted woman who will be so very missed. A special thanks to CHI Franciscan Hospice and the “Visiting Angels” of Puyallup and Hollie for helping Helen with the last months of her beautiful long life.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 13th , 1pm, at Tanwax Country Chapel, 36417 Mountain Hwy E., Eatonville, WA., with luncheon following. We request, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Franciscan Hospice, chifranciscan.org. We would relish a note or card sharing a story or your remembrances of time spent with our mom, Helen.
